Today, I'm doing something a little different. I found this amazing local Mobile, AL account on Instagram -The Home Organized! I was so intrigued by her work, I reached out and asked if she would be interested in doing a guest blog post on Morrell's Armoire! To much of my excitement, she was interested! It is my honor, and I would love to introduce to you, Clara, owner and founder of The Home Organized! Basically, she can come to your home and declutter your life! I appreciate organization and I think it's beautiful when done right. I love this business concept emphatically! I can't wait to call Clara when we start building my closet. She especially likes to work with busy moms. Talk about a #GirlBoss!

Please, welcome Clara to Morrell's Armoire!

-

Hi dear friends! I am excited to be a guest blogger today for Morrell's Armoire. I absolutely adore Morrell, her style and everything she puts out there! It’s an honor to share with yall what I do in my little corner of the world and hope you enjoy this post. OK, so allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Clara and I am a home organizer in and around Mobile, Alabama. I am a Mom of two little boys and wife to a rock star of an accountant, Stephen.

If you aren't familiar with what a home organizer does, let me explain. My job is to come into my client's homes, help them edit the amount of clutter they have, organize it and set up maintainable and simple solutions. I help space plan, haul away trash, donations, & recycling on behalf of my clients as well as shop for products for their homes. Each client’s interior design is unique and I love coming alongside them to create fluidity and functionality from the exterior to those spaces behind closed doors.

I work in all areas of the home - from pantry & kitchens to closets, mudrooms, playrooms, garages and more. I really love working with families (especially busy Moms) and am super happy working in playrooms and closets. Seriously yall, I love closets. GIVE ME ALL THE CLOSETS!

I've had the privilege of working alongside some amazing clients and been honored to be a part of the One Room Challenge by HouseBeautiful and excited about partnering with Joe Vinson Builders/Caitlyn Waite Designs and Pottery Barn for the Parade of Homes in October.

If you would like to know more or just curious about an organizers life – I would love for you to come to say hi and follow along @thehomeorganized_ , on Facebook at The Home Organized or see all my Services and blog on www.thehomeorganized.com.

Thanks again Morrell for allowing to be on your blog and I hope to see you soon!

Much love!!

J.Crew Striped Dress Similar | Adidas Superstar | Tory Burch Bag Similar | Ray Ban Sunglasses | Jean Jacket

I'm trying my hardest to use transition pieces now that we're getting closer to fall, but I can't lie when I say it was 90 degrees hot while taking these pictures. That's just South Alabama for you. Thanks, Lancer for the pictures.

This striped dress is completely universal. I can dress it down with sneakers and a denim jacket for a laid-back look on the weekends, or I can dress it up and wear it with a herringbone vest and tights to work.  I also like to wear it with my olive green Michael Kors Army Jacket. Just like the white tee and denim, I would put a black and white stripe dress in the staple category as well. It's definitely one of the wardrobe essentials that every woman should own.  The pattern and the colors black and white are timeless. Stock your closest with pieces like this dress that are extremely classic and versatile. You can wear them over and over again.

From my closet to yours, thanks for stopping by.

Blogging FAQ: Answering the Most Commonly Asked Questions about Blogging

                                                 Candice Brown Photography

                                                 Candice Brown Photography

Hey everyone, over the past couple of weeks, I have had some readers reach out and ask me questions about blogging and how I got started. I thought I would share with you the most asked questions I get about Morrell's Armoire and Blogging.

When did you start your blog?

I started my blog in the Summer of 2013 right after I graduated from Graduate School at the University of Alabama. I was interviewing for “big girl jobs” at a LOT of places after graduation.  It started it in the meantime of trying to find a real job.

Why did you start your blog?

In all seriousness, and if I’m being truthful with you, I started my blog because I wanted to be a real model and a lot of people told me I could never be a model because of my height.  They also said that I was too “Southern Belle” and maybe I should cut my hair and stop curling it. "Become more edgy!" These were the things that I loved about myself. I wanted to keep them.

I thought to myself, I’ll show them! After hours upon hours of researching, I fell in love with the idea of starting a fashion blog. I could be my own model!! After I spent more time researching other fashion blogs, I finally decided to just do it. I felt it was a great way to document my style. Not mention I have ALWAYS had a passion for clothes, fashion, dressing up….I’ve always wanted a reason to get dressed up.

I also just really wanted to help people with their style and confidence.  Morrell’s Armoire is now my "creative outlet fueled by my passion". Morrell’s Armoire has given me courage, creativity, and so much happiness. Sharing my style is now one of my favorite things to do!

How did you come up with your blog’s name?

I called it Morrell’s Armoire because I wanted something that sounded classy and sophisticated. Armoire means closet, and in my eyes, it says closet in a romantic "Frenchy" way. I’ve always had an Armoire in my childhood room where I kept my most special things. My closet is my refuge and sanctuary. Every piece of clothing in my closet is like my own child. Each piece has a story and a memory. It’s so hard for me to let go of clothes. Read This.

Do you have any advice for choosing a blog name?

Make it your own! Make it something that describes yourself, but something easy to remember- short and sweet. Make it personal and meaningful. The name of your blog should reflect your blog's topic. A lot of people can’t remember the last part of my blog’s name because it’s a little hard to pronounce.  I’ve learned people have a hard time remembering it. That’s one thing I’ve learned thus far. about titles.

Don’t obsess over your blog name. A cool blog name is just one piece of the pie. An awesome blog title alone will not make you successful. It’s all about the content that you put into it day in and day out.

Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers. The more different your blog is, the better. That’s how you stand out.

Do you make money off your blog and can you make a living just from blogging?

YES! A lot of bloggers turn their blog into a small business and pay themselves a salary through their business finances. However, Morrell’s Armoire income is not enough for me to live off right now… solely. Lance and I are in the process of trying to build our forever home, you see.

I have been doing 2 jobs (blogging and working full-time in education) for about five years now, and I honestly haven’t been able to put enough time into my blog to make it my sole source of income. It’s great supplemental income for now. Plus, I love my full-time job as a Career Counselor! Moreover, I work for the state, and I’ve got reeeeeaaaaaaalllllllly good health insurance for Lance and me.  My full-time job offers retirement, excellent health insurance (vision, dental and cancer), and supplemental savings options. I know with the income that I make now off Morrell’s Armoire is not enough to support these benefits. If you work on your own, health insurance isn’t cheap! I just like the security of having these benefits. Knowing that my job will provide excellent health care to my family and future kids means a lot to me. You may be different and want to take a risk, which is fine.

Once I can make more than my full-time salary, I would consider solely blogging. I wouldn’t advise leaving your job unless you have financial support from a spouse or parents, or you can consistently replace your income every month with your blog.  You need to be able to pay your bills!

One cool thing about my full-time job is that I get six weeks off in the summer, so I get to spend a lot of time on my blog during the summer months. Summer months are  are busy for bloggers anyway…

I’ve always had a full-time job. I blog after work hours. It’s a lot. I get off work at 3:15 p.m. I then go to a coffee shop or home and write article, link up my outfits, or meet my friends and take pictures. Sometimes I blog on the weekends. I literally blog almost every minute of free time that I get, and I still have to balance my home and personal life. I just love to do it-share style. I have now kind of incorporated my love for fashion with my counseling job. I’ve starting the “Dress for Success Program at my schools. It helps young men and women learn how to dress professionally!

If you want to be a blogger because you think you’ll get free clothes, and free travel and it looks glamorous, that’s not going to be enough to keep you up and running. You have to have a serious passion for the subject your blogging about. I have never looked at my blog as  burden or  an“extra” job. It’s just a passion of mine and it keeps me going, going, going.

What are some way bloggers make money?

Here are some ways to make money off your blog:

  •   Advertising:

Companies can pay to put their adds on my side. However, I do not have any paid adverting on my page now.

  • Brand Partnerships:

These are set up differently through each brand. Some PR Agencies are companies that will reach out to you. They are the middle man between the blogger and the brand. Before the campaign begins, they help both parties work out a deal that is beneficial for both parties.  I worked with PR agencies for my promotion with Goodies and Bone Fish Restaurant, just to name a few. Most PR companies I’ve worked with make sure that everything is running smoothly and the influencer is upholding their end of the contract. You can make a bad name for yourself in the industry if you don’t hold up your end of the deal.

  •   Affiliate links:

This is my favorote way! Most big online retailers are a part of an affiliate network within a company that is essentially the middleman between bloggers and retailers. There are a lot of affiliate companies like Shop style, Rekutin Marketing , Impact Radius, Amazon Affiliates but the main one most bloggers use is rewardStyleI honestly only use this program right now. It seems to be the best for me. RewardStyle is linked up with the most retailers. I have learned over the years that this company has really advocated for bloggers.

How does it work?

The retailer or brand meets with rewardStyle to determine a percentage that the influencer or blogger will earn on any and every sale that is generated through links on their blog or social media channels. They track the activity of the links through cookies.  Affiliate links work by placing a cookie on your computer. A cookie is a tiny file that the website sends to your computer so next time you visit, they will know who you are already. Cookies stays active usually 30 days, but sometimes longer.

Please know that that there is never an additional fee charged to the shopper by the company that is then given to the bloggers. The company pays rewardStyle, then rewardStyle pays the blogger commission. It’s a win win situation. It’s kind of like a salesman getting a commission from selling a car, or shoes or whatever they may sell.  Shoppers like to know when there are affiliate links present, because they want control over who gets their commission.

Also note that you have to be approved by rewardStyle and have a Legit blog or social media blog.

I do believe in and LOVE all the products that I post about. I don’t just post something to sell and potentially make money.

  •   Sell Memberships

Another option to make money is to sell memberships to exclusive spots of your website. For instance, a sports blog might charge $20 per month for users to gain access to their exclusive celeb interview board. If you are starting up, I probably would not charge a fee. This may be a turn off to readers.

  •  Sell Digital Products

Many bloggers create and sell their own digital products, like new crazed Instagram filters. Digital products are great because they don’t require inventory and can be distributed to quickly and easily. Another example is an e-book about how to grow your Instagram following or how to make a blog.

  • Sell Services

For instance, some brands have hied me for styling. I have helped Shades, Southern Shirt, and even Mobile Bay Bridal Magazine style photoshoots- all paid opportunities.

Can you Contact Brands?

Although I haven’t had much time to do this in the past, it’s ok to reach out to PR agencies and brands for advertising deals.

Note: Have a Media Kit ready to present to the Agency. This a couple of pages that explains the focus of the blog, shows some of your media and photos, and it also presents your following count, your target market, and the demographics that follow you. I also have a page of what I usually charge for a partnership.

Who takes your photos?

The process of taking photos is  probably not what you think. It’s A LOT OF WORK.  I COULD NOT do it without my friends who are professional photographers,  my mom,  and occasionally my husband. I usually change clothes in my car, sweating profusely because the humidity is like 100000+ in South Alabama. I normally do about 3-4 outfits in a shooting. I ‘ll meeting my photographer friend at a location after my full-time work.

This is  a big undertaking. I have to plan out my outfits the night before. Pack it all up in my car. Re-do my hair and make-up. Unpack it and reorganize for the next time… It’s a never ending cycle…. But like I said, I love doing this and it’s a passion of mine, so I do not mind it at all. It doesn’t feel like work to me.

My blog would literally not exist if it weren’t for my amazing photographer friends. I pay them with my own money when I can, and I give them product that I have received as payment when I can. These girls really don’t get enough credit. They are awesome! They are the bread and butter of Morrell’s Armoire! I wouldn’t be here if it were not for them.

Recently, I’ve been working a lot with Candice Brown Photography. We have become great friends! We don’t always meet up just for pictures, but we grab drinks, dinner… We even did a double date with our husbands! It was so fun! I can’t wait to do it again.

In the past, I’ve worked with Larrah Melissa when we lived in the same town.I've worked with a lot of other great photographers in the South Alabama Area!

With my photographer friends, we uplift each other. We tag each other in our posts, and watch each of our businesses grow together.

Anytime I get a cool sponsorship, I always include my photographer. If I ever get sponsored on a cool trip, you better believe she will be coming with me. If I ever get “big” enough that I am making a substantial income off my blog, I will see that my photographer is taken care of as well.  She deserves it!

When my friends are not available, my mom is great… If it comes down to crunch time and no one is available, I make Lance take my pictures. Let’s just say we are still working on that, haha…. Lance is getting better. He does support me and that’s one of the many things I love about him. I feel guilty for asking my family most of the time, but hey it’s got to get done.

What camera does your photographer use?

Candice uses a Nikon d810.  She always tries to get everything just perfect in the initial picture.

What camera do you personally use?

Nikon Cool Pix

What program do you use to edit your photos?

You may be shocked to know that when I alone edit my own pictures, I ONLY use IPhoto. That’s it… I’m keeping it as real as it gets. You can probably tell a difference from my photos and my photographers. Candice uses Photoshop, Lightroom, and Portraiture, but not all three on the same picture every time. About 90% of the time Candice uses just Lightroom.

Are all your clothes free?

No! I do get a lot of clothes and products to keep in exchange for a review post. So essentially, it’s not free. I must put in a lot of work for one post or review. However, the of the majority of my clothes that I blog about are bought with my own money.

NOTE: I only post clothes and products that I love. If I do not like the product, I will not write about it and share it.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done with your blog?

I was on the cover of Mobile Bay Magazine in May 2015. That was pretty awesome and my favorite event so far. Fashion Show VIP status isn't bad either.

Did you pay someone to build your website?

I have had two websites. The first one I made right out of college all by myself in 2013 ! I used Fatcow for hosting and I used the blogging templates offered by Fatcow. I am not at all Tech savy. It took me a while, but I figured it all out over the course of three days or so. It was not expensive. It costs about $250.00 a year to keep it up and running.

When I added on my store in 2017, I wanted to move to Squarespace for E-commerce. I paid my friend Alex Joganic to design my logos, and my new blog and commerce website through Squarespace.  He was awesome. He specializes in fronts and runs a couple of businesses himself.

There is no right or wrong answer to building your website. Just know that if you hire a professional, it can be anywhere from $600.00- $5,000.00 to design your website, depending on who you go with for designing. Find a friend that can cut you a nice deal!

Do you have an assistant?

I wish! I wish I had someone to just follow me around every single day with a camera, as weird as that sounds. It would make daily outfit documentation so much easier.

What is your advice about starting an online boutique/small business?

My end goal WAS to start my own online store, so I finally just did it and jumped right in…. My ideas and opinions on this have changed drastically since then.  I have learned so much about starting a small retail business.

This will have to be all included in another separate post because it is a lot to explain about how to start an online store…

Just few pieces of advice for right now—

1. The boutique world is oversaturated. You have to have a great following and niche to set yourself apart make your things sell. Turning your inventory over in a hurry is the key.

2. DO not let yourself have emotional attachment to what you sell. It’s not about what you think is cute. It’s about what other people are buying.

3. GET AN ACCOUNTANT.  There are a lot of tax rules about starting a business. TAXES SUCK!

PS I’m going to write a post soon about “How To Start an Online E-commerce Site” I will include everything I have learned-the good, bad and the ugly.

I think that about covers everything. I hope you enjoyed that and found it very helpful. That took me about 3 weeks to finish. Please reach out if you have anymore questions. I am happy to help in anyway.

Hello friends! It's a happy Wednesday indeed. This week was back to the full time grind for me! This summer has been so wonderful! I’ve been getting to write more on my blog, update my blog and do daily outfits. I’ve also been able to relax, spend time with my pup, and decompress. I’m ready to see what the new school year brings and start fresh!

On to the fashion...

Why are so many other bloggers already posting fall clothes?  I can't think about fall in the sweltering southern heat! The smell of pumpkin spice right now makes me want to puke! I don't know abut you, but I'm still rocking the summer sweets. I thought this was a really fun combination with the pops of pinks. A pink, well anything pink, is an easy pop of color to style! Pink will add drama to the simplest of outfits, just like this H&M Ruffle Top (that's only $11.00). These Diff pink sunglasses, and these pink tassels from Target are great pops of pink as well. Try mixing  pink with other bright shades for a bolder, brighter look. Long Live Summer!

I have had my Yorkie, Oliver, for eleven years this past Aprill. He is like my child. He, no doubt, has a piece of my heart, and is a part of my family. I can't imagine life without him. Our dogs are so special. They can never be replaced.
We can learn so much from our dogs while they are present in our lives, and even more so after they are gone. If only people were more like dogs, the world would be a more better place!

DOGS:
1. Forgive and love unconditionally.

No matter your condition... No matter what you look like... No matter what you have ...
No matter what you have done in the past, they love you more than life itself. Loving
someone unconditionally is something very hard to do for humans. We hold grudges.
We are jealous beings. This world would be such a better place if everyone loved as
your dog does. Even, if you have just yelled at your dog, they still long for your love and
affection. Loving your enemies is something very hard to do. Do dogs even have any enemies?

2. Are loyal

Your dog will stand by your side no matter what. They will defend you in the toughest
situations to the very end. Just think about how being a more loyal and dependable
person will enrich your life... for you, your family and your friends.

3. Always greet happily you at the door.

4. Enjoy the journey.

Think about the times when you and your dog get in the car. They love to stick their
head out the window and smell the fresh air. They do not care where they're going.
They are just along for the ride. When we set our goals in life, we get so caught up in the
end result. We often forget about the journey. It's the good stuff in between the start and
finish that matters and influences us the most. We often forget to take the "in-between" into account. Live in the moment, not the future.

5. They drink lots of water.

Drinking lots of water is the first and best practice of good health.

6. Love and accept themselves.

Have you ever seen a dog that longed to have the fur of another dog.? They might
fight over toys here and there, but are they really envious of the other's things or
attributes? We get so caught up in trying to keep up with everyone else. We often forget
it's not about the "things" in life. The things that matter are love, good health, kindness,
friends, and family. How boring would life be if we were all alike? Love everything about
yourself, the good, bad and the ugly. The most important thing you can love is yourself, not material things.

7. Play everyday.

Playing opens your mind to new ideas, and creativity. Stop stressing about life, work
and how things are "supposed to be". Live in the moment and love the moment. Have fun! Laugh!

8. Are silent, sit close by and nuzzle us gently.

They LISTEN. They might not understand our words, but they are there for us in hard times.

9. Take pleasure in long walks.

Long walks are a great way to clear your mind. Take in every second of it-the sunshine, the nature, the brisk air. It's all a gift from God meant to be enjoyed.

10. Never pretend to be something that they're not.

I think it is so funny that my dog is such a "momma's boy".  Everyone that has met Oliver jokes about his attitude towards new people. I think it is amazing that he is not afraid to be who he really is, and has no shame curling up in my lap when he is scared, cold, or sleepy.

Just think what you could learn from your dog. As weird as it sounds, if we would really
change our ways to be more like our dogs, this world would be nothing short of impactful.

Dogs come into our lives for different reasons. Whether it is to teach us something about life, or to expand our hearts, dogs are heaven's gift to us.

The look I'm wearing in this post is from Amazon AGAIN.  I have this one in white, and then I went back and bought it in stripes. This dress is so light weight and cool! It's easy and breezy! I like the vintage feel. The best part is that this dress is ONLY $19.00!!! I also linked up vintage bikes that are like mine. I bought mine from Target two summers ago and bought the bike basket from Amazon (only 20$).

I hope you enjoyed this post.

Swing Pockets Shift Sundress | Karen Walker Sunglasses | Gianni Bini Shoes Similar |Bamboo Handmade Handbag

I've been doing a lot of similar posts lately, but I love my fashion finds on Amazon! Celebrate Prime Day and get a little something extra for yourself! This swing pocket shift sundress is only $7!  ...And no that is not a typo. The quality does not reflect the price either. The fabric is very sturdy; however, it is a little see-through. No worries, just add a slip underneath. This dress also comes in other colors as well. The button-down dresses are all the rage this summer. I love this trend and have linked many similar dresses below. My bamboo bag is also from Amazon. It's a designer dupe for only $38!

These pictures were taken at Little Point Clear in Fairhope, Alabama. It's an overnight guest space and reception area for weddings or any event! This place is most charming!  It has got everything you need for an event- all in one. The reception area is beautiful, which can transform easily to meet your event's needs and theme. Plus the back yard is adorable! The guest rooms are just to die for, with their classy coastal design: shiplap, hardwood floors, and modern coastal artwork. If you are wanting to get married around the Fairhope area or even have a super chic party, this is the perfect spot to house your guests and have your event!

Stripe Print Sleeveless Long Jumpsuit | H&M Shoes Similar Here | Bamboo Handbag | Karen Walker Sunglasses

Hey gals! Another Amazon Fashion find today! Introducing the stripe print jumpsuit! IT'S ONLY $23! P.S. This jumpsuit comes in other colors as well-blue and pink! I almost go the pink one...

I literally do not own but one other jumpsuit, but his one is really flattering! It accentuates my waist and flares out at the legs. It's also very easy to move in. I went out for a fun night in this jumpsuit with my friends the other weekend and got SOOOO many compliments! People were coming up asking were I bought it, as I was laying down some moves on the dance floor! I won't lie to you though, it's is not the easiest to go to the bathroom in! The look is totally worth it though.

Not sure if you can pull off a jumpsuit?

Style tips:

1. Wear a little heel if your jumpsuit has a wider leg. Jumpsuits' length can come right above your ankle. If you don't want to look super short, wear heels and elongate your legs. Simple straps are best.

2. Vertical stripes elongate your body. Vertical lines let your eyes move easily up and down without any interruption.

3. Skin tight jumpsuits can sometimes be less flattering. Don't go all leotard on me.  I like this one because it hugs my waist, but also fits loose around my legs, kinda giving it an A-line feel.

4. Try jumpsuits with a open back for an extra flare! It will also keep you cool in the summertime.

5. Start out with a solid color at first if your feel hesitant. Black is best! Then add a statement necklace.

I am trying my hardest to shop on a budget this summer,  so I decided to give Amazon Fashion a try.  Boy, was I surprised! I've bought a couple of pieces from Amazon in the past few weeks - all great quality for a even better price!  This is the first look from Amazon Fashion that is definitely discussion worthy. Can I also add that this dress is ONLY 18$!

I couldn't be happier that the midi dress is shifting back into the closets of women everywhere ...and going strong.  A lot of girls think they can't pull off the longer lines, but girl, yes you can!

Here are a few tips for wearing the Midi:

1. Choose a midi that hits you mid-calf. Length is key! A dress that hits any lower could make you look shorter. Plus, if the length goes longer that mid-calf... it's not a midi. Try a midi right below the knee if you are hesitant.

2. Wear lighter fabrics. Heavier fabrics can weight you down and sometimes make you look, well, heavier. Try fabrics that breath and move. In the summer months, you'll especially want to wear lighter fabrics anyway. It makes for a light and airy look. Let it flow!

3. Select an A-line silhouette with a form fitting waist. You can really accentuate your waist with an A-line midi. Because it fits tighter around your midsection and flairs out of the bottoms, it makes such a classic figure.  Also, wearing the same color throughout top to bottom can really elongate your body.

4. Wear shoes that elongate the legs. Try to avoid shoes that have thick straps and straps that go up your ankles and legs.  They tend to chop you off-making you look rather stubby. You can never go wrong peep toe pumps with this look. The good thing is that the lines of this dress assuredly draw attention towards your feet. It's perfect for when you want to show off your shoe game.  But hey, if the length of your legs is not an issue, try your midi with cute sneakers or ballerina flats! Those can work as well. I love to "casual up" a dress with sneaks!

This season I’m all about the two-piece sets! This one is ...wait for it.....EIGHT DOLLARS!!!! Can you believe that? Amazon Fashion is life now— shopping on a budget while we build our house! The fabric is pretty thin, but that is ok with me in the extremely hot weather. I did have to wear a slip under the skirt part.  I’m so in love with this set and even more so with the price! Adidas Super Star  | Adidas Logo Top | H&m Leather SkirtMAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick | Maui Jim Sunglasses - Cheaper Dupe

Sometimes I like to go a little sporty. I have found that these Adidas superstars go with EVERYTHING- and I mean everything. The basic & original superstars come in black and white, which make it easy to pair with a variety of outfits because of the colors. I also have these in solid white, and I can say the same for them as well. I cannot think of one thing that you couldn't wear these with. I guess the reason they have stuck around this long is because of their versatility.  These are the new "old" shoe of the season. You can wear them with a tee and a skirt like me, a t-shirt dress, cut-off shorts, or boyfriend jeans. Plus, they are super comfortable.  An outfit centered around these shoes is my favorite way to be stylish and comfortable at the same time.

J. Crew Red Cotton-linen apron dress | Gianni Bini Shoes Similar | Turquoise Necklace Similar | Karen Walker Sunglasses

Do you remember my post from a couple of days ago with the seersucker dress? I loved it so much that I went back and bought it in red.  It's on sale for 44$ and I'm so in love (linked above and below).

Fashion designer Bill Blass has been known for saying, “Whenever in doubt, wear red.” That's a quote I will live by. And I’ll admit, there really is nothing in the world like a red dress to make one feel just a little bit sexier.  Even if it's a cute red sundress like this one.

FYI, Red is ALWAYS in style. Here are a couple of reasons why you need a red dress right now!

1. Red symbolizes physical energy, passion, and desire- As I learned in my 12th grade Literature class. This must be why you instantly feel sexier when you slip into that little red number.

2. Red is timeless- There is real photographic evidence that this color NEVER goes out of style.

3. Red dresses are just down right sexy and romantic- Making it perfect for date night.

4. When worn correctly, there is power in a red dress.

5. A red dress will help you stand out, in a good way.

6. Wearing red can make you fee more confident. It may give you a competitive edge.

Try the red dress effect and see for yourself!

What's in my Beach Bag

IMG_5680.jpg
IMG_5682.jpg

Ladies the summer months are upon us, and the beach seems to always be on our minds! Packing appropriately is crucial! Take it from this beach girl, here are the summer essentials that every girl needs in her beach bag.

1. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion Sunscreen- The number one, most important item to carry to the beach- sunscreen! I used to not care at all about getting sunburned. I would roll my eyes at my mom when she would remind me. However, now that I'm in my twenties, I know the importance of protecting yourself from the sun. This Neutrogena sunscreen has UVA/UVB protection and hydration with a water-light, refreshing feel.  I can not stand greasy sun screen! This non-greasy sunscreen has a light, clean feel and layers invisibly under makeup. It's water-resistant sunscreen lotion with SPF 50 that leaves skin looking healthy and moisturized for up to eight hours without any greasy residue or white marks.

2. Sunglasses-  I am loving my new shades from Maho. Check out more frames at Nordstrom. These are another one of my favorites.

3. Garden and Gun Magazine- The Southerner's handbook. Lance just got us a new subscription for a year. Yippe! It keeps me entertained and bound to my Southern roots.

4. A good book- Currently, I am finishing "You are a Badass" by Jen Sincero. It is becoming my new favorite book. It has given me a whole new world of confidence. I would highly recommend reading this, even if you don't need "self- help". It is such a life changer.

5. Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray - Having beach waves one the beach is a must and this small of this spray will make you feel like you're at the beach all day long.

6. My Nikon Camera- Because you never know when you will have a blogging moment.

7. Sandals- A must! (See below for shopping)

8. Do Not Disturb Beach Hat-  I love this one, and it's only 14$ from Amazon!

9. Morrell's Armoire Beach Bag- Buy it right here from my boutique. I am obsessed with its bright beachy colors.

10. Evian Facial Spray- I love this product. I give myself a little spritz to the face when I get to hot It really cools me down. It also gives your skin back moisture a with a nice dewy look.

11. Beachy Bracelets- To add a little pizazz to your beach look. These are from my shop.

12. Watermelon Circle Towel- Change up your regular beach towel game. I love my watermelon circled shaped towel. It even has fringe.

13. Baby Lips Lip Balm-I love to have these lip balms in my bag because they has SPF 20 sunscreen, and last up to 8 hours of moisture. My lips do not feel dry if I wear this on the beach all day. It helps with lip renewal also.

ASOS Gingham Dress | Michael Kors Clutch | MAC Nude Lipstick - Velvet Teddy | Sam Edelman York Studded Sandal

Contrary to popular belief, gingham does NOT say "farm girl" anymore! Gingham is now the "it" print of Spring 2018! If you're on Instagram (which I know you are) gingham is the uniform for most fashionistas year round! I love the gingham trend because you can dress it up and make it classy for the office, or dress it down for a casual weekend look. Try a gingham skirt and a graphic tee, or gingham pants with a ruffled top.

I took this look a little to the edgy street style side with my Sam Edelman York Studded Sandals.  My gingham dress is linked below and is from ASOS. I'm wearing a size 4.

J. Crew Seersucker Dress | Karen Walker Sunglasses | J. Crew Pearls | Gianni Bini Shoes Similar

I love how some say they associate seersucker and the seersucker suit with the Alabama Lawyer. My husband is a lawyer, sometimes works in Mobile, and I LOVE it when he wears his seersucker suit. Even when he pairs his seersucker pants it with a white button-down, I drool. If you're from the south, you must own some form of seersucker. I won't get into the the history of seersucker in the south, but it gets HOT down here!

When going to a June Wedding in 90 degree weather, it isn't easy to stay polished! This soft cotton material is exceptionally breathable and actually wrinkle-resistant.  Seersucker provides colorful, classic, and stylish options in Southern social scenes that keeps us cool. I think the blue pattern is the most classic. Overall, seersucker is the quintessential summer fabric for southerners. Its class, breathability, and feminine appearance make it the perfect ensemble for ladies of the South -so invest in some! I'm so in love with this J.crew dress that I think I'm going back to buy it in the solid red linen. It's on sale now! I wore this to church today. Just click the link below or above to buy. Stay cool my friends!

How to Create the Perfect Southern Proposal

57aa7a29fc9963309f2b8561fad69579.jpg

Every summer I always think back to the day that Lance asked me to marry him. It was probably one of the best days of my life. We've been married 2 years now, and I've thought to myself, if any guy is looking for proposal ideas, this would be a great concept for a perfect southern proposal.

The Back Story:

Although, we have known each other for almost 6 years. I met him when he was 21 and I was 19. My cousin introduced us one fall weekend when I was
home from college, and it's been a ride ever since. I remember being immediately attracted to him the first time I saw him-even with braces. Haha! It really was love at first site.

Lance played baseball and pitched for the South Alabama Jaguars. It was hard trying to maintain
a relationship when we both went to different colleges so far apart, but we never lost touch. He
got drafted to the Detroit Tigers his senior year. He had to move off, and I was sure we were doomed. We've had our ups and downs just like every couple. It was only in the spring of 2011 that Lance got a shoulder injury and had to move back home. That May was when we really decided to do things right, and we have been together ever since. I graduated from grad school in 2013 and Lance graduated from Law School in 2015. We both wanted to be out of school, and have a job before we tied the knot!

11231196_10205694162125621_8551674241710452557_n.jpg
cce3a662feb00683d9f70b48b7092433.jpg

The Proposal:

He and I would talk every now and then about proposals. I think he knew I had high expectations. But really, what girl doesn't want her proposal to be perfect and completely what she's dreamed about. Mine was just that!
You know the episode of Sex and the City where Carrie finds the ring Aiden has hidden and it is
just not "her". Probably one of the biggest decisions a guy has to make is finding the perfect ring
that fits her personality perfectly and cooking up the right proposal that describes your relationship with her perfectly. Mine was just that!

Over the 5 to 6 years that I've have known Lance, the number one place that we had spent the most time together was outdoors at his camp.

July 19 2014:

Lance really wanted to take me to Fairhope. Fairhope, Alabama is one of my favorite places in the
world. He took me shopping, we went and got coffee... all of the regular things I love to do in
this town. I of course, completely unknowing of the future events that he had planed, I demanded
that we swing by a couple of places and look at rings... again. He went right along with it. Later
that afternoon, we walked down to the Fairhope Pier and enjoyed the sunset. We ended the
evening eating at my favorite sushi place. I wanted to stay and watch a movie that I knew Lance
wanted to see as well. He made the comment to me that he really didn't feel like watching a
movie. I may or may not have made a big deal about leaving Fairhope. I for one never like to leave Fairhope. Finally, we were back off to Chatom, my home town.

Lance kept saying something about stopping by his camp before we went home. I didn't really
understand why we had to stop by his camp at this exact time, but I just went with it. I persisted
that we pick up my dog before we went. His excuse was that he had to check on a corn field his
dad had planted a while back. Doesn't that sound like fun? I have to admit, I was a little disinterested.

When we arrived at the gate, Lance realized that there was a note on the gate. At this time, I
wasn't paying much attention...that is until he came back to the truck and gave me the letter. The Letter was written to me from Lance.

It read..

"Hope you've had a great day. I'm sure you're wondering what's going on at this point. Truth is, I
wanted us to have a memorable day together to make up for lost time over the last few years.
Speaking of memorable, this property has produced a good bit of ours. How many memories do
you have out here? If you're having trouble remembering, search for more cards like this one as we ride into time."

So we rode. We went to SEVEN different spots around his property each location was decorated
with a white card. Every card took us back in time to a memory, including the location of our
first kiss! As the cards were winding down, and I knew we were about to arrive at the last
location, I started to get nervous. Surely he wasn't going to propose this night. I was expecting a winter proposal. We came back around the hollow that we had just passed a few moments
before. The first time we passed by, there was nothing but darkness. The second time we drove
by, a huge magnolia tree was light up like I have never seen before. Lights were everywhere. It felt like an enchanted forest.

~All I had was my iPhone to take pictures that night, and I'm telling you these picture do not do this setting justice. Lance and I recreated the scene for the engagement pictures.~

11062363_10205712666988231_4790292373158930324_n.jpg

My breathe was taken away. This tree literally looked like it came right out of Pinterest! As we
walked up to the tree, I remembered thinking this tree wasn't like this the first time we drove by,
and there's no way he did ALL THIS "just because" ... Something is bound to happen. We sat on a picnic blanket that he had so thoughtfully prepared. We talked a couple of minutes and finally I said jokingly, "Well if you wanted to propose to me, this would have been perfect" "Well you can check my pockets. I don't have a ring.," he said. I did, and there was nothing there. Ok, I have to admit, at that point I was a little let down. We talked some more. Lance surrendered some of his most intimate thoughts. We then realized this was the very tree we had carved our names in three years ago.
Lance asked me to come over to were our initials were tattered in the bark from years past. He proceeded to give me a very last card, which read...

"Morrell, Thank you so much for being you. Thank you for standing behind me and supporting me. Without you, there is no we. Don't you think it's time we become family? ...I do! So face me as I take a knee. Let me express my love before we carve the "B".

I was of course hysterically crying at the point. As I read his letter he grabbed a ring box out of
the tree and knelt to one knee. I of course said yes, he arose, and we kissed!
Later we drank champaign and carved the very last "B" in the tree.

It was absolutely beautiful!

Words can't describe how breathtaking this night was to me. I am so blessed to have a man that cares about me so much that he would go through all of the trouble in the world for this day. It was a prefect proposal!

I am so happy to share this moment with you!

ce45f61df756a4e568aca7aaed3c519d.jpg

Here's a couple of quick and easy steps to help guide you through the perfect southern proposal.

1. Keep the Element of Surprise-Never let let her know it's coming

2. Use a venue/setting that is meaningful to your girl- Lance used his land where we always spent time together and then noted each special spot.

3. Set the Scene- Going over and beyond to make the scene perfect will make that moment that much more special. Lance lit up an entire magnolia tree with mason jars, lights, candles, and then placed a blanket and a some champagne underneath.

4. Tie in an everlasting element- We carved a "B" into our tree that will be there forever.

5. Love Notes- Lance had a small note for each spot we stopped. I will have those as a keepsake forever.

6.  Family or no Family- What is important to your lady? Would she prefer her parents and family be there? If so, then please invite them to the background when the engagement is taking place. If you're shooting for something much more intimate, let it just be you two alone.

7. Drop to One Knee- this is the one that may seem cliché but trust me…it is necessary. Even non-traditional women will tell you this is a given. It's your easy chance to be charming and romantic.

8. Tell Her Why You Want to Marry Her- Lance told me while he was down on one knee, but I hardly remember any of it because of the excitement. Be ready to repeat yourself for years to  come. ; )

9. Have the appropriate drinks on hand for a true southern celebration- especially if you are inviting over guests afterwards for a surprise engagement party.

10. Last but not least, make sure you've asked her parents before you pop the question... like a true southern gentleman.

1. Stay

Currently my husband and I are living in small quaint neighborhood called Palm Harbor. Right Across from the Turquoise condominiums,  where each house is a different color with its own personality. However, if we didn't already stay here while we are building a house, there are numerous inspiring places to stay for a mini vacay over the weekend or a long stay-cation visit.

Castle in the Sand VRBO

This Beach house is just WOW. Located directly on the shores, Castle in the Sand is a brand new house that features a gulf side private heated pool, 5 private covered balconies on the south side of the home, and there are two additional private covered balconies on the north side of the home that offer incredible views of Ole River. We rented one side of this house for a photoshoot, but each side will accommodate 14-26 guests. You could rent both sides at one time for up to 52 guests! This could be one of the best values in the entire area. This interior is amazing and the views are even better. It's even a short walk to the Flora-Bama

The Turquoise Place

These condos are located right across from our neighborhood. I get to see their magnificence of tall, soaring tower glass everyday.  Once you step foot inside the Turquoise, you will automatically enter a world of luxury. Each unit is very spacious; which includes 3,4, and 5 bedroom ocean-front condominiums. What I love about this place the most is that each unit has a hot tub on the balcony. You can't beat that! Turquoise Place is a great escape from reality. Enjoy the very best of the Alabama Gulf Coast in a sea of Turquoise.

Hotel Indigo

This hotel is BRAND NEW and just downright chic! The building features a wave like roof and is connected to the delicious Southern Grind Coffee House (which will be mentioned later in this post). Most of the hiking and biking trails are accessible right from the front door of the Indigo. The Indigo also has a full-time shuttle bus that goes back and forth from the State Park Pier.  I love sitting at their swanky bar and having a cocktail.

The Caribe Resort

What makes this gorgeous resort stand out is the lazy river and pool!  Don't forget about the tennis courts, saunas and steam rooms, game room, private beach cart service, five star restaurant nearby-Cobalt, and much more. Not to mention, the Ole River sunset views are incredible from this location.

2. Eat

Big Fish

I LOVE Big Fish! This is one of my favorite eateries in Orange Beach. I come here for the amazing sushi rolls. The Lobster Roll and Red Dragon are the best.  However, if you're craving either steak or seafood, they won't disappoint. For dessert, try the Key Lime Martini. It tastes just like your eating a bite of key lime pie. Don't forget to make reservations.

The Gulf

Did Someone say tacos? The Gulf serves some of the BEST fish and shrimp tacos. The grouper sandwich is also a hit as well. The dill sauce drizzled on top of the grouper is worth asking for extra! I almost forgot the most important part-the ambiance! This is hands down the coolest outdoor setting I've ever experienced. With a stunning view of the boats going by in the turquoise water leading into the pass, outdoor couches, teepees, picnic tables, twinkling lights, and more, you won't want to leave!

Cosmo's

This is one of my favorite places to eat dinner. Dress casual. You can sit outside or inside, depending on your preference. The walls are filled wth colorful, beautiful art. Try my favorite, the Firecracker Shrimp. It's the most delectable appetizer- you won't want to share it with anyone.  Tip: This place stays packed out during the summer months! Make reservations in advance.

Cobalt

Dine by the beauty of the the intercostal canal and enjoy a gorgeous sunset while sipping a martini, and snacking on a tuna stack. Made with the freshest pink aha tuna, sandwiched between crisp wontons & avocado slices, the tuna stack is my favorite appetizer here. Perched by the Perdido Bay Bridge, the views are sensational here. This is the custom coastal cuisine at it's finest. Ask for a window seat or sit outside by the live band.

City Donut

Delicious donuts and coffee. What more could a breakfast ask for?

Buzzcatz Coffee and Sweets

I ate breakfast here a couple of days ago and it was delicious! It was the best breakfast sandwich I've EVER had! Next on my list is the cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich. The coffee was great too. Stop by for lunch and grab a chicken salad wrap or some ice ream.

3. Do

Don't let this rather small town fool you. There are tons of things to do.

(My favorite on the "Do" list.) You can't beat the sugar white sands and the turquoise blue water. Crashing waves and catching rays should be the first thing on your list.

Located at the Wharf. Make your very own customizable fragrance for bath and body products. They have 200 fragrances to choose from!!

4. Drink

Flora-Bama

To the nights we won't remember and the friends we'll never forget! You've heard about this place in famous songs,  Kenny Chesney's Flora-Bama, JJ Grey and MoFro Florabama, Jimmy Buffett - Bama Breeze. The Flora-Bama is the home of THE bushwhacker. I can't say enough about this place. Only that I have had countless unforgettable memories here with my family and friends for years and years. Voted one of the world's best Beach Bars! Come in the A.M. and enjoy a burger, listen to local bands, and catch some rays on the deck.  ...And when the sun goes down, the night heats up.  Don't forget about the world famous Mullet Toss. It's the biggest and best beach party you'll ever attend. Why not throw a fish or two while your there? By the way, it was this past weekend!

Fishers

Because the food is unbelievably delectable, Fisher's should be in the dine portion too.  I LOVE their drinks and cocktails! This is a two story building. The top restaurant is fancy and the bottom restaurant is nice and casual. Try the Signature Margarita with the sea salty foam topping- delicious.  With Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, grapefruit-thyme soda, lime juice, lemon bitters, the Downrigger is also another fave of mine.

Pirates Cove

Getting Bushwhacked at Pirates Cove is what every summer needs.  Ask for floater. You know you want one! P.S Most of my friends and I travel here by boat.

Southern Grind Coffee House

The best coffee on the beach! The Southern Grind Coffee House has two locations; one at Hotel Indigo, and one at The Wharf! They offer homemade pastries, amazing fresh breakfast, many choices of Gelato. The numerous flavors of gelato are AMAZING! They have wifi, and not to mention, they are pet friendly! For me to be able to bring my pup Oliver to coffee hour makes SGCH more than a Coffee House!  I work on blog posts here all the time. Plus, you never know what unique array of gifts and home décor you will find in stores.  The owners' hands on approach has earned them numerous awards and excellent reviews!

This vanilla bean bushwhacker rivals the Whacker from the Flora-Bama! Pull up by boat or car, both will do. Their seasonal drinks are wort a try as well, like the Mardi Gras bushwhacker. Laced with King Cake, it's to die for!

Red or White at the Wharf

Have some cheese and prosciutto with your wine, red or white. They have all the finest. The pizza is satisfying as well.

The Yard Milkshake Bar

This milkshake brings all the boys AND girls to the yard! You've never seen a milk shake like this before.

 5. See

The Alabama Point- The Pass

Bring the beach towels, beach chairs, sand toys and snacks. You may just stay all day and enjoy the waves, rays, and passing boats from the bay.  Don't forget your Mahos for the catching rays part.

Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach

This venue offers a cool rainy day venue with interactive arts and culture. Visit the gallery, the Hot Shop and the Clay Studio where you can see a demonstration or take a class. Pick out a piece of art work or make your own!

Gulf State Park Pier

Take a rod and reel for some fun pier fishing. This pier has 2,448 feet of fishing space available along the rails plus the views are gorgeous! Cost varies.

The Wharf

Shop, dine, see a movie, go to a concert, walk the promenade, ride one of the South's largest ferris wheels, try your luck at putt-putt golf, catch a fishing charter, or see a fishing rodeo, it's  literally ALL here!   You can spend all day and night here and still have many things to do! I highly recommend the shopping scene! Maho can be found at the Shades store at the Wharf.

There are so many fun things to eat, see, and do here! I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed this City Guide post as we adventured though Orange Beach as much as we did! I am wearing the Maho Key West Rose, and the Maho Reykjavik 49Mm Polarized Round Sunglasses in Whisky. The beach definitely looks better through a pair of Mahos.

Good evening! This post is a little late tonight, but I had to take a long nap after this one. Just kidding! One thing I love more than shopping is... BRUNCH!  I had my wedding at 10 a.m. just so I could have a brunch reception with all the fixings. I love all things brunch including: waffles, pancakes, shrimp and grits, and bottomless mimosas!  Mimosas are great, but now I'm loving this new line of Sangria by LOLEA. Even better, they make a Sangria Rose! LOLEA just launched their Rose N5 this April. Rose all day is this summer's motto! I mixed my LOLEA Rose N5 with fresh oranges, apples, and grapes to add a fruity punch. This is such a fashionable Rose for a girls brunch. It's made with a blend of frizzante, with hibiscus flower and natural flavors. Don't forget to try the flavors N1-N3. The N1 is the most traditional Sangria- popular in Spain.   I also want to point out the gorgeous polka dotted bottle. It has a muselet - the wire cage that fits over the cork of a bottle to prevent the cork from emerging under the pressure of the carbonated contents. It keeps your drink fresh and sparkling if you do not finish the entire bottle. I'm saving my cute dotted LOLEA bottles for other occasions. You can find LOLEA in your nearest Fresh Market, Rouses, Whole Foods, or Piggly Wiggly. Bottoms up!

J.crew Pink Mules | J. Crew Midi Skirt | J. Crew Plaid Linen Top | Karen Walker Sunglasses | J.crew Necklace

I can't lie. I copied this outfit straight off the J.Crew Factory Outfit Obsessions page. Now I know why they call it outfit obsessions. I was completely obsessed the minute I saw it.  I love how they pair each ensemble on their website. If you're not the best at mixing prints, check the website. Some of the photos on the pairing page can give you great ideas and outfit inspo. I was also able to get everything 50% off. J.Crew Factory always has GREAT sales! By the way, you can get this outfit 50%-60% off today! I wore this over Easter weekend with my family, and I've worn it to work.  It would also be perfect for an outdoor spring party. Try a bright ruffled midi skirt, paired with button down shirt, like me. The frilly midi is really the perfect summer outfit, especially when paired with a straw tote and pom pom accessories. I mixed patterns in the blue family, and added a nice pop of color with my hot pink mules. Happy Spring!
